Your pet's nutritional demands will depend on his/her breed, age, reproductive status, weight and stress factors including disease states.
Hill's Prescription Diets: These diet formulations are designed for the management of animals with identified health problems. They are sold only under the direction of a veterinarian. Most of the prescription diets are available in both canned and dry formulations. The canned formulations are generally fed 1/2 can per 10 lb. body weight whereas the dry formulations are generally fed 3/4 to 1 cup per 10 lbs. body weight. These amounts are suggested starting points and should be adjusted as needed to maintain ideal body weight.
HILL'S PRESCRIPTION DIETS
Prescription Diet brand pet foods are designed to assist in the nutritional management of animals with various problems. These foods should be used only under the direction of a veterinarian. There are many different Prescription Diets. Following is a listing of the Prescription Diets available at Hickory Pet Inn.
Canine and Feline C/D
This formula is recommended for animals with recurrent urinary tract infection and urinary calculi (bladder stones). It contains reduced amounts of magnesium and phosphorus and mildly reduced protein.
Canine and Feline S/D
This formula contains reduced protein, reduced phosphorus and magnesium and increased sodium. It aids in the dissolution of struvite bladder stones. It induces an increase in urine volume and continuously acid urine. This formula should not be fed to young growing animals, pregnant animals or animals with heart or kidney disease. This diet may NOT be used as a maintenance diet.
Canine and Feline D/D
The protein in this canned diet is derived solely from lamb and rice. The dry D/D formula contains protein derived solely from egg and rice. These foods are used in the treatment of animals with skin or gastrointestinal problems resulting from food allergies. Those animals thought to have food allergies should be restricted to a novel source of protein during a trial period (6-8 weeks).
Canine and Feline P/D
This formula contains increased protein, increased energy and increased minerals and vitamins. It is recommended for animals with increased energy needs such as those recovering from surgery, severe parasitic infection, or chronic debilitating disease (such as cancer).
Canine and feline K/D
This diet contains reduced protein, reduced phosphorus and reduced sodium. It is recommended for animals with liver disease and kidney failure.
Canine and Feline R/D
This diet contains reduced energy and increased fiber. It is recommended for the treatment of obesity in adult animals.
Canine and Feline W/D
This diet contains moderately reduced energy and moderately increased fiber. It is recommended for the prevention of obesity in less active animals and as a maintenance diet for diabetic pets. This diet may be used following successful weight loss using R/D.
Canine I/D
This diet contains increased electrolytes, reduced fat and highly digestible forms of protein and carbohydrate. It is useful in the management of gastrointestinal conditions and recovery from gastrointestinal surgery.
